Christ in you, the hope of glory – This is your identity

Colossians 1:27”To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

The mystery of the gospel of grace revealed through Christ living in us reflects the glory of God in our lives and the joy of our hearts. Christ in us, the hope of glory.

The mystery was hidden for ages and generations but has now been revealed to us believers, and it’s for all people. Titus 2:11-14”For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” How wonderful the mystery of God has been revealed to us for our benefit.

New Covenant glory

The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. The Old Testament was a shadow of things to come but the reality is found now in Christ. Colossians 2:17”These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.”

Romans 6:4”We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. We who believed have been baptized into his death, in order that just as Christ Jesus was raised from the dead we might walk in the newness of life by the glory of the Father.”

The glory of God has been revealed to us through Christ’s finished work on the cross. Jesus was full of glory and by him dying on the cross we received his glory. 2 Corinthians 3:7-9″Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not glaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end. Will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory.”

Living in the New Covenant of grace, believers have better promises which reflect the glory of God for their lives. He is our God and we are his people. He gave us his Holy Spirit filled with his glory to complete us in Christ.

As you partake in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection you put on a new self that comes with a new identity. Acts 17:28”In him we live and move and have our being.” As Jesus is so are you in this world. You are one with him, having his thoughts which are yours in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5).

2 Corinthians 5:20-21”Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

 Who are you then?

You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus by faith. Jesus forgave you for all your sins by the shedding of his blood on the cross, and his righteousness was imputed to you. Old things in your life have been passed away, all things have become new.

The enemy wants you to be sin conscious or sin minded so you can be conscious of your shortcomings, but God wants you to be conscious of your true identity in him. Romans 8:10”But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.”

1 Corinthians 15:10”But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace towards me was not in vain.” It’s because of the grace of God and you being led by the Holy Spirit that you are able to walk in God’s righteousness and effortlessly reflect his glory. It’s nothing that you can boast about or take credit for; it’s all because of the grace of God that he has lavished on you with all wisdom and insight.

God’s plan was to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth as he reveals the mystery of his will to us through Christ. Through this we have been adopted as sons through Jesus and we sit in heavenly places in Christ at the right hand of God the Father.

Children of the Most High

We are sons of God led by the Spirit of God. His Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.

Since we are in Christ, the kingdom of God is within us and he has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places (Ephesians 1:3). We are to always set our minds on things above and not on earthly things. Where our treasure is so our hearts will be also.

2 Corinthians 4:13-18”Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.  For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

Jesus is your new true identity

Jesus is who we are before God. When God sees us, he sees us in Christ, perfect and cloaked in his righteousness. Jesus in God’s eyes is the fullness of who he is, so we being in Christ have his fullness. Finding yourself is finding your identity in Christ. It’s like looking at your reflection in a mirror and seeing Christ, he is your true identity. Jesus paid it all on the cross and through him you are completely liberated. Romans 8:3-4”For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

So no matter what situations you are facing, whether it may be physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, financial, or whatever it may be, God wants you to see yourself the same way he sees you in Christ.  God wants you to behold Jesus full of his amazing grace and be transformed from glory to glory. 2 Corinthians 3:18”And we all, with unveiled faces, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”

When you see Jesus in his grace, God sees you in his faith reflecting the glory of God.  By beholding Jesus, the Holy Spirit transforms you. As you are transformed into the fullness of Christ, you exercise your faith believing that you are healed in all areas of your life, knowing that all is well. Now enter your faith rest and be at peace as you trust God.

Your victory is in Christ, who is the hope of God’s glory. Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you (Isaiah 60:1). Jesus is your identity before God.
